Type of Adoption

With a minor adoption (full adoption), the legal ties to the biological parents are severed. With an adult adoption, the relationships to the biological parents generally remain in place. An adult adoption with the effect of a minor adoption requires special circumstances (e.g. where the adoptee has already lived with the family as a child).

Biological Parents of the Adoptee

The consent of the biological parents is generally required. Please provide all information known to you. If a parent is deceased or unknown, a corresponding note in the field “Special circumstances” below is sufficient.

Please note: Notarial fees are charged in accordance with the German Court and Notary Fees Act (GNotKG). If the notary prepares a draft as instructed, fees may also apply if the matter is not ultimately notarised. The adoption also requires a court decision by the German family court, for which further documents (birth certificates, family register extracts, police clearance certificate and proof of income, where applicable) must be provided.
